Meng-Yang Zhu, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of University of Mississippi, will examine the mechanisms that underlie how the antidepressant desipramine downregulates a gene for a protein called the norepinephrine transporter (NET). The regulation of this gene, and whether changes in the formation of NET are related to downregulation of NET protein levels following desipramine exposure, will be investigated. This study may provide important evidence to explain the molecular basis of antidepressant action. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar) |
